For the Kapamilya...

For the Kapuso...

And for a little "fun" =P

Let's Face It

This movie review has spoilers so if you want to keep the suspense (I won't be revealing the ending or who the killer is, though), visit my style blog instead. =P

My brother rented this movie last week and like all other movie rentals that he's brought home,  I had to ask if it was a scary movie before watching it. I have a seasonal preference for scary movies. There will be weeks or about a month when I would watch horror or suspense flicks only.  Sadly, now is not that season. Harhar.  When he told me it wasn't about ghosts, I sat down to watch.

Milla Jovovich is Anna Marchant, a school teacher living the so-called life with her boyfriend Bryce.  After a girl's night out, she witnesses a crime---with the perpetrator none other than the town's most wanted serial killer Tearjerk Jack.  Because iPhones are awesome and they ring so that the killer can catch you watching him, Anna had to run and fight for her life but she fell off the bridge.  She survived but as a result, she now suffers a condition called Prosopagnosia or Face Blindness.

Now, the movie's whodunnit storyline won't really hold your attention but the prosopagnosia angle would! How incredibly awesome (and kinda scary) is the human brain? One small damage in one of your brain's tiny parts and your boyfriend's face changes every now and then (this would be awesome ONLY if they switch from Johnny Depp to John Lloyd Cruz).  There are so many movies out there that depict how powerful the human brain is and the anomalies and medical conditions that are eerily stranger than fiction.  Let's not forget Lucy Whitmore and how Henry Roth made her fall in love with him every day! (Seriously, why are the best guys fictional?)

But I digress.

It's extremely fascinating---how there are real people out there who suffer from prosopagnosia. I can just imagine the horror of not recognizing your own family! Although I male patients would find one or two advantages.  Imagine, your wife's face changes all the time! That's like, pardonable polygamy. Hahaha. And of course, the perpetual excuse he can give to a girlfriend, "I'm sorry, I thought she was you!"

Anyway, since we're on the subject of romance and all... (SPOILER ALERT) another angle which I found interesting in the movie is the love story between Anna and Kerrest (played by the hot hot hot Julian McMahon).

Anna and Kerrest
Can I just dedicate a portion of this review as a tribute to how timelessly gwapo Julian McMahon is?? First fell for him in Charmed (talk about devilishly good looks!).  He's got eyes that kinda look at you, marry you, and spend ever after with you.  I'm a sucker for beautiful eyes (you can make kurap kurap now).  I had a Wentworth Miller worship phase just because he has the most gorgeous eyes in prison. Hahahaha. And back to Julian, le sigh. That's all I can say. I can say, "Marry me, Julian!" but John Lloyd would be hurt.

So anyhoo... the love story wasn't built up to be such a big deal in the film and that's something I found interesting. There was a slight surprise factor towards the end when you realize that the love story actually has more significance in the storyline than you thought. :)

Would I recommend it, yes, but only if you're kinda bored and you wanna know what this face blindness is all about. =)

It's not a horror-thriller. Not at all.  Suspense? Well, it's as suspenseful as any other movie which makes you guess who the killer is.  It's not that startling either, so my poor caffeinated heart was safe all throughout the movie.

In other news, Paranormal Activity's radio teaser ends with "The last fifteen minutes of the movie will mess you up for the rest of your life."

If I wanted to get messed up for the rest of my life, I'd get a boyfriend. Hahahahaha. Joke. Relationships won't mess you up for the rest of your life.

For ten years lang siguro.

Just kidding, universe. =P

Just Chu

Okay, so I like this song by David Guetta featuring Usher.
How could I not? It played for an average of twenty times just yesterday.  But other than that, the melody is really catchy...

But didn't you guys notice how it's WITHOUTCHU every frickin' time??? Hahahahaha. And then towards the end, it becomes IYOOOOOO instead of YOU. =P

Sorry, loves, I woke up unbelievably late today. I'm a little bummed that I don't have the time to make my zombie costume for tomorrow.  :-<

I'm A Lover Not A Hiker

"Daig ng Suplado ang Gwapo"

Or so says Ramon Bautista.

He's hilarious. And he's a professor in UP! Imagine that. He strikes me as the guy who will end up marrying probably the hottest and prettiest girl in showbiz and he'll win her with his wit & humor.

 His caption: "Saksakan ng Gwapo"

His caption: "Lalakeng lalake si Derek. Ako rin… bago ko sya makita"

Daig nga ba ng suplado ang gwapo? Basta ang alam ko, daig ng mabait ang gwapo.  Medyo tie din nga pala ang mabait at funny. =)  That's one of the things that can attract me in a guy---his sense of humor. I'm not talking "Knock knock who's there?" humor.  More like, intellectual funny.  Simpleng banat pero benta.

It's not easy to make me laugh. Sometimes, I find Internet jokes, failblogs, random wall photos far funnier than actual jokes delivered in person. But once you've figured out what sort of jokes or punchline makes me laugh, I'm pretty much unstoppable. Hahahahahaha! (see, blogger has me figured out na!)

Anyhoo... some words of wisdom from this person of interest's twitter account:

"kung hindi mutual ang feelings naten, pwes, gagawin kong mutual. ayaw ko na rin sau."

"hindi na baleng may madilim kang nakaraan. sa akin naman ay may malabo kang kinabukasan"

"tignan mo lang yung mga mga nasa paligid mong mas panget sayo, pag masaya sila, dapat mas masaya ka hihihi"

"spoiler alert: ako saka ikaw, happy ending."

Benta lang yung pagka keso! ^_^  I leave you now with a video starring him and other personalities in Pinoy TV.  I LOVE THIS VIDEO----and you'll have to watch it all the way to the end to know why. :))))))))))

Fancy A Halloween Costume?

Before anything else, I promise to update both my style blog and photoblog tomorrow.

I sweeeear!! I'm just in the middle of something super duper important right now and the most time I can spare is just for small, cheesy updates here on my blog. Right, Ana Viajera? ;-)

I have a site recommendation, loves! If you're into random images made of awesome and pure win, then you'd love !  Go check it out now. :)  It's a "catalog of your favorite things
around the web & around the world."

Here are a few images that I fancied!

Manarola, Cinque Terre

Ferrari 612 GTO

What it says! Hahahahaha

Salt Desert of Uyuni, Bolivia

M24 Orion Magni Gyro

And one of my ultimate favorites:

True story, bro.

I like how the images are as random as the text messages I get from complete strangers  asking for load because they sent me a balikbayan box from the Middle East. The Fancy, in my opinion, is a lot like Tumblr---except that it's more mature and professional.  And you kinda have to look into some of the more insightful photos and figure out the meaning on your own.  You won't get help from captions like "Forever Alone" and other Tumblr lines.

In other news, it's gonna be my first "real" Trick or Treat this year. I've dressed up for Halloween before in PI, but of course, it's different.  We'd have a very Pinoy Halloween party, I never went out for trick or treat.  I'm contemplating on dressing up but I don't really have concrete ideas yet. Hahahaha. This is harder than thinking of a thesis topic proposal! =P  I just know I'm not gonna show up as anything from the Harry Potter fandom because that's not a costume.. that's a lifestyle. Tee-hee! ;-)

Sooooooooo, I'm considering these ladies because I love them... And because I already have their clothes in my closet! HAHAHAHA. Easy!

BSG's Boomer

So I'm going for the Asian femme fatale vibe... I'm feeling the need to kick some ass. =P  But if we're talking more girl power, I have to say that I have always secretly (boo, now I just revealed it!) wanted to dress up as Rogue.  The original costume, not the Anna Paquin one.

In elementary, my classmates and I all had X-Men characters assigned to ourselves. I still remember. I was Rogue, Karen Joy was Storm, Aura was Jean Grey, Erwin was Gambit, Noriel was Cyclops, Dexter was Colossus, and Janine was Phoenix. I forgot what Mylene was. :(  I have to go find them on Facebook now and see if they still remember their X-Men alter egos in grade school.  #dork101

Anyhoo, if these prove to be unsatisfactory, I just might end up dressed as either....

So I have an excuse to buy a similar pearl necklace and that tiny tiara ^_^

Because I've always secretly (gasp! two secrets in one blog entry!) wanted to say, "Meowww. I'm Cherie del Ri-rawrrr!"

But if all else fails, I'm gonna go mainstream.  Hello, Zombie del Rio!

From Nothing To Infinity

Above is a four minute video that discusses the Hubble Ultra Deep Field.  If you can waste your time watching ten minute video blogs from me, please consider watching this little masterpiece.   I'm not really a frustrated astronaut hahahahhaha but I've always found things relating to outer space quite interesting. I still can't get over how huge VY Canis Majoris is. O_O

So anyway, what happened when they pointed the most powerful telescope to what seemed like a blank patch of space? Well, they found what appeared to be an infinity of stars and galaxies!  The scientists took a chance and pointed the telescope into nothingness, and there was a huge chance that the only image they'd get is a black canvass.  But lo and behold, they were introduced to this majestic image:

The Ultra Deep Field. :)

As said in the video, each smear, each speck, each dot represents stars and galaxies! Pretty amazing, huh? We're smaller than the tiniest tiny speck on the tiniest grain of sand, and yet we're the most powerful.  Oh, humanity. :)

I haven't reached my cheesiness quota so allow me to reflect on this.  Sometimes, we wonder if there's anything out there for us. Is something amazing ever gonna happen to our seemingly boring, uneventful lives? I'm a bit of a multi-tasker but trust me, I have moments when I just revert to my Lelaina Pierce mode a.k.a. "I wanted to be something by the age of 23."  In order to want to "be something", then you're probably feeling like you're "nothing", right?

And this is where I snap out of it.  Because I know that nobody can be "just nothing".  Sometimes it may appear to be that way, sometimes everything seems pitch black crazy.  But just like the Hubble Ultra Deep Field, it only appears that way.  A risk has to be taken, and waiting has to be done.  And then... a revelation of the most fascinating kind.  In the same way that if we just believed more, if we took more risks and chances, and if we waited just a bit more... we'll get past through the darkness and find our infinite galaxies. :)

I'm starting to find mine, the images are forming, and I have to thank my telescope: God. =)

Admit It

We all want a John Cusack with a boom box outside our bedroom window.

kinda redefines "my heart's a stereo" dontcha think so? =P

And yes, the song played just has to be Peter Gabriel, too. "In Your Eyes" is forever on my playlist. It's been there for yeaaaaaars. ^_^  Here's the classic scene from "Say Anything".  Made of pure win!

And here's the song from Manong Peter.  I always get mixed emotions when I hear this song. It starts out "ouch ouch" then becomes "oooh".  Sometimes it's ooohkay and sometimes it's hooohpeful. :)))  It's just one of my weird-feel-good themes. :-)

In my eyes, you are complete. (But I have astigmatism).

The Five Stages of Dorkiness

Like I said in my fashion blog, the bench multi-shot photos have a bit of a story.  I decided to take the dorkiness up one more level and applied it to the Kübler-Ross model.  Now it's a Kübler-Ross fashion supermodel. Hahaha!

Let the title serve as a warning. ;-)

Otherwise known as:  It's okay. I'm fine. I still got the moves like Jagger.

Otherwise known as:  I wish you'll wake up gay one day.  And that the next time I see you, you're french kissing Lil Wayne or something.

Otherwise known as:  Okay, fine.  Can we forget about Jagger and Lil Wayne for a bit?  Let's just get lost in a bunch of crap for another cycle because we're cool like that.  I'll even share my Jamba Juice with you.

Otherwise known as:  I'm going to sing all the songs in Adele's 21 album.  Never mind I'll find one better than youuuu, I wish nothing but bull sheeeet for you toooo (Ay, sorry, depression stage pala. Not bitterness. ^_^)

Otherwise known as:  Why hello there, hot neighbor. :)))))

Further known as:  Screw all these stages, I'm hungry.  Keep calm and eat some sushi. :)

/end dorkiness

For the real "story", view the outfit post HERE.  ;-)

The Boy Next Door

Okay, so I have a REALLY cute neighbor.

Scratch that, he's not just cute. He's gwapo.  With his dark blonde hair and well-chiseled form (I saw him in a sexy shirt one hot afternoon, sue me!), he'll pass off as a cross between Paul Walker and Josh Lucas.  Don't even get me started about the way he looks with that black jacket and blue jeans. And that darn black truck he drives around. HOMIGEZ. Am I officially a stalker now??? Hahaha. (Fine, since stalker na talaga ako, I'll take a picture of him one day hahahahahhahahaha)

He's what girls in my hometown would call mukhang mabango. Hahahahaha! I can't claim to have a type (although I had a phase in college when my crushes were all tall, super skinny, and chinito) but I'm always attracted to the neat-looking ones. Yes, the ones who ALREADY look like they smell good even though you haven't caught a whiff of their perfume (na sana hindi Jovan hahaha!).

Anyways, going back to my neighbor. I don't know his name. I revert to full shy mode when I see him! He's always smiling and waving at the little Asian girl next door and I can't help but smile too! Haha. Trouble is, all I could ever muster is this tight-lipped smile. And with me, my tight-lipped smiles have a bit of a hit-and-miss thing going. I look either really cute or really constipated. Hahahaha.

I don't know why I can't just say hello or wave back. Maybe it's because I'm not sure if the woman he's living with is his mother or his girlfriend. Haha. I can't walk up to him and ask, "Are you dating lola?"

Okay, so just when I finally gathered enough courage to grin widely at him and say hi back (I was getting the mail and he was ever so slowly passing me by in his truck saying hello again), my nieces run up to me screaming "MRS. MCGONAGALL! MRS. MCGONAGALL!"

And that's when I realized I was in my Harry Potter party costume.

Story of my life.

Because I'm A Lazy Blogger

I am reposting my Facebook Wall Photos here on Blogspot! Woohoo! :))

I dunno when exactly did I start posting my thoughts as captions to the photos my brother took. Although, I guess if I checked the FB timestamps, I'd know the exact date and time. Haha. Howeverrrrrr, I noticed that photos (at least the Wall ones) on Facebook now have a "change date" option! *collective gasp from the audience*  Is this Facebook's remedy to all the broken relationships it has created? "Look at the photo date, babe! I made out with her a year before I met you."

I guess I've always had these "learnings" with me. I've always had these thoughts, I was just afraid to post them publicly because I know there are still people out there who will read it the wrong way.  But then, I also realized... why should I care? This is my space, these are my thoughts (heck, these are MY pictures), I have every right to share them---especially since I know that there are even more people who will benefit from the insights. :)

I'm thankful for the likes, comments, and shares these picture-caption combos got, and now I'm hoping bloggerville benefits from them too. :)

On days that you feel a little down, remember to count your blessings. Because just when you feel like you're not good enough, you'll find that there's always gonna be someone out there who will want to pull you down. Not because you're bad, but precisely because you're good. So chin up, smile, and remember that no matter how hard they try, they'll never be as great as you. =)

“Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.” - Dr. Seuss

The pathway to your dreams can be unpredictable. But as long as you keep it straight, as long as you keep your focus, as long as you keep moving… then you’ll get there. :)

In life, we cross a lot of bridges. Some you will cross with a crowd, some you will cross in solitude. There will be people you will leave behind, but there are more (and even better) people to meet on the other side.  Life is too short to be wasted on people who do not deserve to be in your life, people who do nothing but become a source of negativity, people who will try to hold you back and stop you from reaching your destination. Remember:

“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.” ― Dr. Seuss

Everyday, we wake up to miracles and blessings that we oftentimes fail to recognize because we're too busy worrying about the work and stress ahead. A priest in Don Bosco told me years ago that every time I begin the day with a prayer, when I pray before work, the entire day becomes a prayer itself. I found everything to be much easier, more productive, and definitely more rewarding. =)

So today, do as Padre Pío says: "Pray, hope, and don't worry."

I think we all have moments of feeling lost. And usually, these moments happen when we lose something... or someone---valued pieces of our lives. When a part is lost, the rest recognizes a seemingly irreplaceable void. And suddenly, we feel like we've lost ourselves too. But I've learned that because these moments are inevitable and losses are as necessary as breathing itself, we shouldn't spend so much time and energy in finding oneself. I've learned that sometimes, it doesn't help to look for the person that you are or were. It's better to look for the person you want to be.

Don't look for the people you've lost. Look for the ones who will introduce you to the best of you.

I rest my case. ;-)

Request and Run

Thank YOU.

It's all very cliched... you know, how stuff that hurt you will one day make you wiser and stronger.  It's all cliched but it's all still true. There are moments in our lives which (I think) we can already predict---outcomes we can foresee, answers we've already heard long before we ask the questions. There are times, maybe out of wishful thinking or curiosity (will the outcome change this time?), we put ourselves through events even though we know we're setting ourselves up for, well, hurt.  But because we've already anticipated it, it doesn't hurt as much anymore. But that's not the best thing about it.  What's even more awesome is the epiphany that is born with the quasi-pain.  You react differently to things this time, many thanks to the changes you've undergone.  Somewhere in between, you find freedom. =D

This doesn't make sense to you guys, does it? =P  It will, someday. ;-)

We ask for something, we get it, we run away. We never know what happens with what we leave behind.  Hit and run, except we got something for ourselves.

Still doesn't make sense? Fine, let's just put a caption to the photo!

A couple of weeks back, my niece and I played Touch Ball or tatsing or whatever the game really is called! I know I was supposed to just run from left to right, but I ran in another direction and far from where I was supposed to be moving around. Haha.

I don't run like a girl, folks.  I run like a LITTLE girl.  ^_^

A Rewarding Run

Please join the run!! If I were back home, I'd be walking really fast running too. =)

Reality Check

I want my blog to be a source of good news, of all things happy, of sappy jokes, of cheese overloads.  I want this work in progress to be a ray of caffeinated sunshine, so to speak.  But as thankful as I am for the positive Facebook groups and inspirational websites, there are still bits in cyberspace (I believe they're called "news") which just push you back into your seat, dejected, shaking your head, and thinking "What kind of world do we live in?"  And then it becomes one of those days when you wonder what's happening, where's all the good in the world?

I'm not going to post and auto-play the videos here but I will provide you with links:

Toddler run over twice, ignored by passers-by - China

People accused of witchcraft, burned alive - Africa

And then, there's this photo from this Facebook page:

Apparently, children in Batangas are being kidnapped and their internal organs are taken to be sold. What is wrong with you, people? This is a bad copy of Turistas! I've always known people can be heartless, but seriously... what is happening to humanity? I no longer wonder how people could be so cruel to animals. They're cruel to their own kind in the first place.

That incident in China---it's already appalling as it is. But I can't believe some people are trying to justify the indifference by saying that people could be prosecuted for helping out due to that Nanjing judgment passed on years ago.  If these passers by were scared that they were gonna be prosecuted for helping out the child, it only goes to show how much more selfish they were.  They would rather let a child die instead of facing a trial they're gonna win anyways.  So you're chicken $hit, couldn't you at least have called for help?

The Philippines isn't perfect---what with these stupid kidnapping and whatever other crimes and corruption are in existence. But what I really appreciate about our culture and our values is how we never hesitate to help out when we see someone in need.  In fact, we even have a law that punishes someone who fails to lend aid on the spot to a victim/someone who needs it.

So we can't help out everyone. We can't save everyone. But there's always something we CAN do. Sometimes, you don't even have to seek out charities or visit orphanages. Sometimes, the person that needs your help is right beside you, a friend, a family member. Start from there. And then reach out.

When I visited SOS Children's Villages in Lipa City almost three years ago, I met two of the village moms. These are women who have dedicated their lives to becoming mothers of children they never gave birth to. But they are mothers in every sense and meaning of the word. I found it so fascinating I wondered if I could do it too.  I'm always in awe of people who adopt, actually. (On a side-note, I hope you've all seen that Beyonce video where her prosthetic belly pops or something. Geez, if you don't wanna ruin your figure, go adopt or just tell the world the truth!).

I'm not even sure anymore who said it---if it was Sharon Stone or Angelina Jolie.  Someone said that there are so many children out there who need a mother, a family.  And that's why I'm so passionate about SOS.  Because, as their tagline says, they DO provide a loving home for every child.  They make sure that the orphaned children grow up with a good family. If, for instance, the orphans are siblings, they make sure that they belong to the same family/house.

There's not much that I can do for now, being thousands of miles away. And I'm not gonna knock on your doors and threaten you with a whip and say, give me donations! or go to the village and help out!  We help out in our own little ways after all.  But I will ask for your help on this one.

I'm sure you all log on to your Facebooks every day. So I'm asking for you to trade that minute of checking your crush's boring status (or at least save it for later) and comment on this instead.

PLEASE go to, CONNECT WITH FACEBOOK, and comment on their photos. You can say hello or cutie or God bless or whatever nice message you had in mind. One comment is equal to a ten peso donation. It's not much, but with combined efforts, we can give these kids a decent donation.  We may not be able to help Yue Yue (the Chinese toddler) or the kids who might've been kidnapped, but we can help Joy, Bernard, Sharlene, Juliet, Jaden and James. =)

As for the Batangas kidnapping news, I hope the parents would be more careful. Keep your children safe. That toddler in China wouldn't have been run over if her mother was paying attention. If I had a two yearold daughter, I won't be letting her hand go in public.

I'd like to believe that even though we are faced with more and more reasons to lose faith in humanity, the world is still a safe home for everyone. But all the love and safety has to begin within the family.

Pretty Please

Soldier of Crayons

Finally found time to update my fashion blog, =)  Still have a lot of photo backlogs to rummage through, but we'll get there.  If you still haven't checked out Kitiwit's promo for the SOS Children's Villages, please please do so NOW. The promo is only until November 9th.

It makes me sad that people have time to like/comment/share stupid, grammatically incorrect photos and whatnot but they don't have time to comment on these kids' photos. The site automatically donates 10 pesos per comment per kid. Each child still hasn't even reached a 500-peso donation. =(

Please take time to visit the site, CONNECT WITH FACEBOOK (instead of registering because there are glitches with the security image), then comment. One comment per kid will suffice. There are only six kids. Please invite your friends to do the same because the donations are per username - per kid. It won't even take ten minutes of your time. =)

Back in the Game

If you haven't seen the series GAME OF THRONES, now would be a good time to hit the back button of your browser.  This blog entry contains spoilers. =)

I was able to catch the pilot episode of Game of Thrones in HBO all those months ago and I have to admit that it really was gripping, addictive almost.  Not The X-Files or Nikita addictive, but it was the kind that made you want to catch the next episodes.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to follow it religiously.  I didn't scream bloody murder for missing the episodes, though. I'd do that for the X-Files or maybe Modern Family. ;-) The solution to missed episodes? Best goddarn internet invention: torrents. Haha. Jk.  I downloaded the remaining eight episodes just before I boarded the train from California to Chicago.

There was nothing to be done on board except take pictures of nature, read, watch, and try to keep your balance as you walk from your seat to the cafe lounge in search for coffee. I was able to finish watching only until the 7th episode. I just stopped.

I no longer found the need to watch the remaining three. Why? Combination of reasons, I guess. I already knew what was gonna happen, I was tired, and there were some scenes in the series which I was getting fed up with.  Or maybe I was just annoyed that there weren't enough Jon Snow scenes. Tee-hee!

So anyhoo, I decided to finish the series this week.  Okay, so maybe I just didn't want to see Ed die! Why, Sean Bean, why???! Why do you ALWAYS die???  I swear I'm gonna write a movie some day, cast Sean Bean, make it appear like he'll die but give him a redeeming moment in the end: just alive!

Here's a Sean Bean death reel, watch it if you're not easily grossed out by gruesome death scenes.

What is it with Sean Bean, really? He looks too damn tough to die. O_O Maybe that's it. He's the ending you never expect. I still haven't gotten over Boromir's death, now I'm about to mourn Lord Eddard Stark.

On a side note--- I remember reading an entertainment article about Sean Bean being on a date and some guy insults the girl (I think) and they get into a fight, Sean gets stabbed, but he somehow still pwns the other dude and sorta walks out of the bar with Stark swag. Haha. I have to look for that article to prove to you that I did not just make that up in my Sean Bean fangirl brain. Sean Bean is awesome. Love him!

Aaaaand just for fun, I took a "Which Game of Thrones Character Are You" quiz. It was a choice among What Ice Cream Flavor Are You, What Is Your Pizza Personality, and this. I picked to answer this one.  My results:

So I was either Lady Catelyn or Lord Eddard, so I guess that puts me in the House Stark. ;-)  Oh, how wonderful would it be if I had Tyrion's brains and Daenerys's body. I'll kick Cersei Lannister's pretty face. Anyway, moving on becauuuuuuuuuse.....

May The 4s Be With You!

As in the iPhone 4s! Haha. Okay, so my brother was trying to impress me last night with this "Siri" voice command thingamajig that comes with the latest release of iPhone.

So basically, he just stood there, repeating "You're an idiot!" and "Siri" kept replying "No. No. No. No. No. No. I am just trying to help you."

Oh well, boys.  If you've never had a girlfriend, try getting the new iPhone 4. Looks to me as though it's an ideal practice gadget for those nonsensical banters conversations. ;-)

Ang kulit lang ni Siri! Parang si Siri del Rio! Mweheheheh.

Although I love my Apple products, I don't see myself switching from Blackberry to iPhone anytime soon.  I guess it's because I already have an iTouch that I can use for whatever iApplication I fancy? If I need to make calls, I can use my BB. Plus, there's that Apple Peel that turns your iTouch into an iPhone.

Haha! It's an iTouch case which comes with a SIM card slot and a built-in microphone!  Woohoo! Free worldwide shipping! Pwedeng mag order all the way to Barangay Pinagtung ulan or Bolbok or kung san mang lupalop ng daigdig!  But no, I won't be buying this. Hahaha. I'm just really amazed by the "gadgets" people have been coming up with lately.

So for about a hundred bucks, you can talk to Siri too. I'm pretty sure hackers and programmers have found a way to bring goddess Siri down to the world of mortal, lower level iPhones by now. ;-)

A Share That Cares

I'm cross-posting this in all of my blogs and I'm asking all my friends to please spread the word as well. I wish we could have something like this for SOS Children's Villages-Lipa too!! How can we make that happen, universe?? Please! =)

To show a different kind of sharing community, Kitiwit comes up with A SHARE THAT CARES online event where every COMMENT and SHARE a user make for a particular kid from SOS Children's Village Manila, will automatically donate 10pesos for every COMMENT.
So the more you share the kid stories, the organization's vision and the event page, the more people will comment the more donation we will collect to help the kids to have a better future.
Start to COMMENT. Start to SHARE. Start to CARE.

Hurry, loves! Joy, Bernard, Sharlene, Juliet, Jaden and James need your support. This online event will run only from October 18th to November 9th. Please comment and share ASAP.

You'd think that because this is an automatic donation and all that people have to do is register/connect with Facebook then comment, the kids would have thousands of pesos donated to their account by now. But no. =(  They only have around 150-220 pesos. Come on people, we comment on the silliest of photos and Facebook shares that won't even help our brain cells. We like and comment photos of friends who want to win contests all the time.  This will only take a second of your time.

CLICK HERE to start commenting and donating!

This is the kind of sharing and commenting that will make a difference.  :)

Looking Up

Like, literally, I guess.

Photo taken by my brother, :)  We went to Starved Rock in Utica, IL last weekend.  Psssssssh! It was nice and all but... I'm a lover, not a hiker. Harharhar.  I'm not sure if I will be able to post the pictures soon hahaha. I still have photos from a fall photo shoot at a forest preserve. Haven't uploaded those either!  Although, I did use one of my favorite shots as the new banner of my fashion blog. ;-)

Anyhoo, I posted this photo on my Facebook wall this morning, accompanied by a reminder from one of my favorite saints, Padre Pio. He said, "Pray, hope, and don't worry."

I guess we can blame my Catholic school girl upbringing, or the country I grew up in, or maybe I'm just built in a way that faith is of utmost importance to me. Ever since I was old enough to set "standards" for a husband, I always said that the first requisite was that he must be a Catholic. He had to be someone I can marry in church, someone I can go to mass with, and someone who will raise our kids under the same faith.  It's just really important to me because after all the years of trials, all the challenges, only one has really held me together and got me back on track: God.

They say that when you hit rock bottom, it's always a good thing.  Because there's no way to go but up. Very true. But even the climb up could be another challenge, another journey.  People always tell us not to give up. But there are times when the most important and the best decision we could ever make is to give up, to surrender, to let go.

My gorgeous dermatologist shared a link to  Oprah Winfrey's Master Class video on Facebook and I found myself eating my vegetarian dinner right in front of the macbook, holding on to Oprah's every word and chewing my tomatoes very slowly.

When you have worked as hard and done as much and strived and tried and given and plead and bargained and hoped.......Surrender.... When you have done all that you can do, and there is nothing left for you to do... Give it up. Give it up to that thing that is greater than yourself and let it then become a part of the flow.

For me, it's always been easier to give up ANYTHING but people I've held dear in my life.  I can give up a lot of things----shopping (okay, trying but I'm pretty sure if it came down to this lang, I'd be able to din), a job, a hobby, a goal, any material object.  It's not a piece of cake, but it's definitely not something I would lament over for months.  I don't get THAT attached.  But when it's people, when it's someone I've loved and considered a part of my life, it's not that easy to let go.

And this is where God comes in.

Actually, He's always been there. But I guess this is where I look up and finally listen.  He creates opportunities for you to see WHY you have to let those people go.  Don't tell me you haven't lost friends or lovers or colleagues or family members, you filthy hypocrite. Hahaha. My mom calls it "cleansing"---how we lose people we no longer need in our lives, people who leave on their own, people who bring us down, people who never make an effort to stay, people who try to drag us into a $hitload of negativity.

We all lose someone(s). And I think it's mostly because they or we or both of us change.  And these changes are so great you just don't see the puzzles fitting anymore.  Shape-shifters, much? =P

I guess they've changed their shapes and they fit in someone else's puzzles now (In the same way that our shapes don't fit the puzzles they're trying to complete in their own lives). And we, we just have to accept the fact that there's gonna be an empty space---but we need to keep that open....

...for when we find the proverbial "missing piece". So yeah, everything could be in turmoil. Things can be off track for a bit. Your puzzle isn't complete and the pieces are scattered.  Things may look like they've all gone to hell and your life is one big season premiere of The Walking Dead.  But in time, the missing peace will come too.

And then finally, you'll just find yourself looking up (with a fab leopard scarf around your neck hahahaha), ignoring the ultra cold weather, smiling, and thinking---just like in the Harry Potter novels---all is well. =)

From Chelsea, With Love.

I have a blog, and I'm not afraid to use it! And today, this blog will serve as a winged messenger.  ^_^  This blog entry is a letter for my friend, I know I could easily just email this to her, but I'm hoping the quasi-anonymity makes the message stronger. How? I don't really know. Just a gut feeling. =P

My dearest friend,

I miss talking to you about, well, everything.  We would spend hours talking, with me literally falling asleep to the sound of your voice happily narrating events that occurred from five years ago. I miss you so much, you have no idea. It breaks my heart that I can't be there for you when you need me. You were there for me every freakn time I needed a friend, and now that it's your turn to experience these trials, I'm not there.  I can't even make you laugh with my silly jokes or force you to watch movies like 500 Days of Summer or gross you out with my weird food combinations.

You are one of my best friends and I am here for you.  And I guess instead of saying this directly to you, I'm choosing to make it slightly mysterious (mga 2% mysterious) because I hate having to be the one to warn you about nasty possibilities.  So I guess I'm not only making the message stronger, I am also hoping for a bit of plausible deniability on your end. :)

Falling in love is exciting.  And falling in love for the first time is the King of Exciting. The feeling is incomparable, and no human words can ever really, completely describe how glorious it is.  To love someone for the first time and be loved back. I see myself in you sometimes, how passionate you are with your job and with your life. And I have a really good feeling you're just gonna be as passionate and as committed when you finally get in a relationship.

And that, my dear friend, scares me. Because I think that you're someone who falls deeply. Deeper than I do, and that is saying a LOT.  It's true what they say---the deeper you fall, the more hurt you'll get, and the more difficult it would be to climb back up.  And while you are also the strongest person I know, I still am afraid that this will prove to be quite a challenge for you.  A challenge that I can only pray you will succeed in.

love. period.

I always tell you to learn from my mistakes, don't make the same decisions I did.  But there's also a part of me that wants you to experience this for yourself - mistakes and all, pain and all - because it will shape your character.  It WILL make you stronger (and prettier and sexier and wiser and awesomerrrr hahahahha!).   You will really learn a lot, you'll grow up.  You ultimately become a better person, a better version of you. The only worry I have is that you have gone through so much too soon, and a heartbreak should be the least of your concerns.

You have to be careful with a first love, methinks.  Because it can either be made up of all things awesome or all things bullshit.  Sometimes, it's made up of pretty awesome bullshit. Hehe. Kidding aside, a first love is (IMHO) always unexpected and unpredictable. And I'm afraid that you're not ready for the unpredictable. I'm also afraid that this guy is a total jerk. There I said it! :P

Because! What guy tells you he's in love with you then just leaves town? That's just wrong. That's like me telling you, I'm having a birthday party and you're invited but it's gonna be in Narnia.  Seriously. Anyway, I will stop questioning this guy's motives because I know it will hurt your feelings. But just know that I love you and I don't want you to get hurt. I want you to end up with a guy who's going to be real, to and for you. :)

I know it feels like you want to wait for him forevarrrr. Because it just won't be the same anymore. Then "Somewhere down the road" becomes your national anthem.  It's always like that.  Hindi naman.  Take my word for it---it always gets better. Sometimes, it gets worse before it gets better. But it does get better! =)

So please, I implore you (yehess!), don't rush into making decisions with your eyes closed. Open your eyes and tread slowly. =)  And remember that despite all these insights I'm giving you, I still support you a hundred and ten percent----whatever decision you make. Whatever makes you happy will make me happy. And whatever makes you cry... well, I'll be your crying shoulder. And we'll wait for karma to strike back! ;-)

You're a strong, beautiful, selfless person. I always get upset when you belittle yourself and your abilities. So much has happened to you this past few months, and you are still going through a lot.  But look at you, still a picture of a strong, carefree spirit.  So let this blog entry slash letter just serve as a nudge. A little warning of sorts. But more importantly, a small reminder that I AM STILL here for you.

Always. :)

Since we're still on the subject of luuuurve (Why is it that this topic ALWAYS gets more attention?! In all my classes before, people never got bored if we discussed love. Try discussing the economy and social justice and subject-verb-agreement and everyone falls asleep =P) ...... lemme share with you this article on How To Tell If Someone Loves You. ;)

Okay, so while the article has merit, I'm afraid the valid points are quite limited. I've done a lot of those things mentioned in the list, but I dunno.. I mean, so what? Do I win the big everyone-can-tell-you-love-him cook off? Hahaha.  I know some of my friends have not done a single thing in that list but they love their partners just the same.

It's just that people do different things to show you they love you. It's an immortal saying already---just coz someone doesn't love you the way you expect them to, doesn't mean they don't love you. But that shouldn't mean you have to lower your standards and settle. Like, "Oh he doesn't care if I'm in the ICU, he'd rather watch football, but that doesn't mean he doesn't love me."  Or "Oh, he's just flirting with other girls but he still comes home to me so I think it's an acceptable level of love." Norrrrr (my Australian accent No).  You'll feel it.  It's not just in the things he does and definitely not in the things he says.  It's what he does and says at the same time, what his plans are, how he treats you, and a bit of circumstantial evidence. Haha! :P

I think you guys get my drift! Anyway, why am I saying this? Because I found the comment below on the article and I found it more amusing than the writeup itself:

GUEST: I started crying while reading this because it made me realize that the man I love and live with does not truly love me.

CONMAN:  only an idiot would allow an internet posting to define their relationship

Dear Guest,

Dear Conman,

Kthxbai! ^_^
